I always hesitate when I see Ayumi Ishida’s records because of their price range, but the shop owner’s casual “Take a look around!” boosted my spirits and I bought one! The content was, as expected, fantastic, and I’m so glad I bought it. As I was digging, new arrivals kept piling up, from hip-hop 12-inch records to jazz, Japanese music, all genres, and the prices were reasonable. I ended up getting this and that!

Eye Q is a legendary rock band from Zimbabwe. They seem to be heavily influenced by Jimi Hendrix and Zamrock, and their powerful guitar sound is incredibly catchy. I picked up this album after talking to the owner, a huge Zamrock fan, at a record store nestled in the quiet residential area of Ikeshita in Nagoya!

Skate Ant

The new releases I’m checking out are from the Ukrainian experimental label MUSCUT and Dublin’s Wah Wah Wino. I bought them from rana music store’s e-commerce site, which is hosting a pre-release playback event for Wah Wah Wino. They’re a bit rough around the edges and I can’t quite pinpoint the genre, but I absolutely love the intensity of the sound.

VA Invictus / Hot Wax GROOVES & BREAKS

VA / Invictus / Hot Wax GROOVES & BREAKS
A compilation that lets you dig into the soul of Invictus/Hot Wax, which followed Motown.

Phono equalizer

This compilation brings together artists from the Invictus/Hot Wax label, founded by Holland-Dozier-Holland after their time at Motown.

It features names that will appeal to fans of 70s soul/funk, such as Freda Payne, Parliament, Laura Lee, and Chairmen of the Board.

Rather than simply listing famous tracks, this compilation offers a comprehensive experience of the Invictus/Hot Wax label’s atmosphere. It’s a recommended compilation for anyone wanting to delve a little deeper into the soul/funk scene.

I went to Karuizawa to attend a family celebration. Since I had an appointment, I made a last-minute visit. It was a record shop run by an individual in an oil shop. The prices were very reasonable, and I bought a record based on the cover art!

It was a 1970s country-style album, filled with recordings from various environments.

This shop was also featured on Recoya. It was a lovely place, surrounded by greenery, a spot frequented by those in the know.

I’ll choose the record based on my memories of the movie!

Phono equalizer

This might be the first movie I ever became obsessed with, even though it was made before I was born.

I suddenly heard “Eye of the Tiger” on speakers in a record store in the Kanto region over 10 years ago, and I was thrilled. Thrilled. Thrilled.

I bought it on impulse, but I also realized that buying records based on soundtracks from my favorite movies was a good approach. I think it’s a good recommendation for record beginners.

DIASONICS ORNITHOLOGY

DIASONICS / ORNITHOLOGY
A cinematic groove from Moscow, where a bird-like sense of weightlessness intersects with 70s library funk.

Phono equalizer

This album, based on themes like birds, flight, and space, has an overall cinematic atmosphere with a sense of weightlessness. It seamlessly blends the textures of 70s library music, jazz-funk, and disco-funk with the tightness characteristic of modern bands.

Rather than relying heavily on vocals, this album gradually builds its soundscape through the interplay of guitar, keyboard, bass, and drums. Having recently become hooked on instrumental music, I think I’ll be listening to this repeatedly for a while.

It’s an album I can easily recommend to anyone who enjoys instrumental groove music.

日野 皓正 DAY DREAM

日野 皓正 / DAY DREAM
Lately, I’ve been shifting from funk to jazz. This album completely captivated me with the power of Terumasa Hino.

Phono equalizer

This is a 1980 album by world-renowned jazz trumpeter, Mr. Hino. It’s East Coast fusion jazz.

I’ve recently started listening to a new genre, “jazz,” after moving on from funk, and this is one of the albums I came across.

For someone completely unfamiliar with jazz, the power he creates is incredible. I want to do a bit more research and get another one of Mr. Hino’s albums next.
